This game is so funny, although really dark at times. I love the quirky dialogues. Everything from the art to music is high quality. I would suggest having exclamation marks whenever someone has something for you and even indications of where to place items, since there were times where you had to talk to everyone to progress. But I guess difficulty can be a matter of personal choice. As for my favorite thing about this game is the attention to detail. In art, music, writing and even the programming. For example whenever the character would walk further they would change size to reflect this. I imagine details like this aren't easy to implement so props to that. I also felt really sorry for the people playing this unaware of the inside jokes. Bacon cheeks out of ten. It's always great seeing Jacob posting music ;)

PsychoGoldfish responds:

This whole game was just an elaborate ruse to get @Jacob to publish more music

MZZA responds:

I even feel sorry for the people *aware* of the inside jokes.

The music and sounds are great! I especially like how the punching sounds. The graphics are also pretty. On level 1, I could OHKO the zombies, so they felt kinda pointless. But after playing the second level, I realised they were probably in the first level as a tutorial enemy, since on level 2, the graveyard provided a nice timing challenge. I did discover a bug though. If you follow the zombie all the way through the graveyard, it prevents the other zombies from spawning. Also, what's up with the horse? You can't kill it (so what's the point of having weapons) and I couldn't jump over them without avoiding damage. Also, the cliffs were misleading because the background texture made it look like there wasn't a gap on the floor.

It certaily has Castlevania vibes, however it does kinda suffer from the same fate, as the walking speed is really slow. The character controls great, but the jump feels kinda long, like being on the moon. Because of this, the spikes challenge on level 1 felt pretty frustrating. Its overall a good game though, good job!

Harlemblack responds:

Thank you for the review! It isn't bug. It is intended by design. On the horse statues, just punch them in the face, haha. Yea my pixel art skill still needs more refinement. It's too bad that you are uncomfortable with the character's movement mechanism, since it is good enough for this type of game which does not emphasize too much on platform challenges, imo. Cheers!

It started out great, but then a little boring at the end.

adriendittrick responds:

Thanks for reaching the end anyway :)

Reminded me of Sonic and Spyro. I like the feel of the character, and music (obviously), but I have a problem with the level design. I didn't know where to go, and anywhere I went felt like a trap. Anyways good game.

thankya mrsnuggles god bless ya pal

This game could have been much better if it had: better controls (why have run on z if you give me the option to use wasd?), some tutorials at least, and faster movement.

BigBossErndog responds:

Hi. have you been reading the signs? You can also run and attack with J and K, which would be better to use with WASD.
I went with a non-intrusive approach, having signs to read to learn how to play the game. Would it be better to actually force the player through a tutorial?

If you would PM me with some more feedback it would be very helpful, thank you :D

Sick game, awesome song. 5/5

heroyooky responds:

Thank you. I have to give credit to Waterflame for the song, he really did an awesome job.

Big exposition dump right at the beggining, having you make potions like that seems very boring to me. But this seems like a choice and not a game for everyone.

FutureCopLGF responds:

Good point about the exposition: I'll definitely look to make the full game introduce the concepts one-by-one instead of just dumping them on the player!

Artstyle is amazing. 5/5

TristanMX responds:

Thaaank you!

I really like the concept, the tips helped, but I have a problem with the music as its just generic blues, it didn't feel like something I would remember for a long time.

grinrobot responds:

Thank you for your kind feedback!)) We have prepared 66 levels in the full version of the game. New monsters, new adventures, map and new smart moves are waiting for you! https://store.steampowered.com/app/1209520/Smart_Moves

Its a good game although I am gonna say. As mentioned in another comment, the game starts off with a very intriguing dialogue about blood cells and whatever, then it goes silent. The music is great, great atmosphere and visuals. But, the controls are kinda cranky, specially when it comes to jumping. And I noticed that after splitting, they both face a different direction, so that when jumping off of herself you will intuitively jump in the wrong direction since you already started walking in the other direction. Its not much but its enough to break the immersion in the experience and I personally found it very infuriating. Besides that, the game itself is good. I think the splitting mechanic is fun to play around with, although it can be a little mind boggling in the beginning. To end my rant (sorry for that) I think the game needs some more polishing.

edit: Its hard to tell because people are different, but I prefer the intuitive approach. Anyway good job, its nice that there was a learning moment. Most times in production you wish you could go back and fix a fundamental issue but its too late, just gotta take notice and do better on the next game!

jonahgames responds:

The stacked jump direction was a really hard call to make. For most of the game's development the Emily on top would jump in the opposite direction of the bottom's movement, matching your initial intuition. However a lot of my playtesters didn't have that intuition and got frustrated, so I switched to the current system. I'm not sure if I made the right call.
